We write about it, make plans to see success happen in our worlds, attend conferences for the purpose of gaining or maintaining our desired level of success and no doubt we literally dream about it at times.

Once again, I would encourage you to somehow — in your own manner — enter into your reflective mode as you read the quote. While I do not pretend it to be one of those life-changing creations, I do believe it could spurn additional thoughts of your own: and that’s that point:

Being creative in your own right.
Reflecting on how to make it “work” for you in your own world.

Several questions to assist you in discovering any applications relative to this short quote.

What deeply felt desires would I love to make progress on this day, month or year?
What changes will I need to make in order to experience the realization of my deeply held desires?
How am I doing in the consistency area of life? Do I need to sharpen up a bit? How consistent will I need to be, and in what area will I need to be consistent the most, if I am to accomplish the desires I hold so dear?

Dealing with topics related to the direction of our lives, life purpose, and our values are issues of tremendous importance. May the brief comments below assist you as you continue to refine and live out your own reasons for living.

What’s Your Target In Life?

What’s Your Target for Life?

Targets may signify great importance in your lives.

By way of example…

If we target the completion of a great relationship with the intent of making it work over the long haul: the “win” can hold a huge meaning for our lives and the lives of others.

Should we target the investment of our time, talents and energies into motivating others to join us in the task of giving people in underdeveloped countries safe and clean water to drink, the “win” can be huge in terms of both personal fulfillment and the beginning of a new life for many others.

If we set our emotional sights on hitting the target of helping children read, educating the next generation of leaders, or being the best possible mom or dad, becoming the best salesman in the force, gaining the victory of the life-is-so-fast-and-I-am-going-to-break-out-of-the-race syndrome…

If we set our sights on these and any other heart-felt targets, the benefits to our lives can be enormous.

In the book Success On Purpose by ER Haas and Kent C Madson, the authors use these words quite frequently:

Happiness
Satisfaction
Significance

And they wrap these words around a single “target” which I believe it is important for all of us to pursue:

The identification and and subsequent pursuing

of our purpose in life:

our supreme “target” in life.

With that focus in mind, let me ask you a set of questions to begin our thinking for this New Year (no, I have not “arrived” in these areas: they are good for me to reflect upon as well.):

Have I clearly identified my own purpose in life — or various purposes according to my roles — or am I in the process of doing so? Where am I on that journey? Where should I be in that journey?
Related to the comment above, have I formulated a personal mission statement to help guide me in the pursuit of the life I desire to live? Would I like to do so? And if so, what would I assign as a target date to begin my effort?
If I were to take more than a few moments of my life to think about the words “happiness,” “significance” and “satisfaction” and how they might play out in terms their realization in my life, what journal entries would I make? What insights might I gain in that simple exercise that could move me forward in my experiencing of those most important terms?

The most cherished, heart-felt targets of our lives so often:

Set direction
Determine behavior
Define parameters
Reinforce vision
Produce desired results

All the best to you in this New Year and all the years to follow in any and all of your individual “target generated” endeavors!

Adding The “Care Factor”

To The Business Of Business

While Writing An Online Friend…

As you know, I am a writer, enjoy the journaling process, and also the blogging process as an attraction marketer. All that to say that as such, there are times when I like to “capture the moment” and just put up a blog post because something comes to mind or touches my heart while I am in the process of doing whatever “it” is.

That just took place.

While sending off a personal note to Dr. Mani — an online friend of mine I have been fortunate enough to interact with on a personal level for a number of years — I experienced one of those “enjoyable pauses” we experience during any given day. (See my “Giving Back” page for more on Dr. Mani’s work).

My enjoyable pause followed my sending personal note off to Dr. Mani about my appreciation for the example he has been to me over the years — and especially in some recent interactions with him which took place. While I am not going to share the entire content of my interaction with him, I will share a glimpse of that note of appreciation. I thanked him for…

“Being an inspirational example as you add in ‘the care factor’ to your business and your business teachings as you instruct or mentor others.”

That’s It! ”The Care Factor”

Upon the completion of my expression of gratitude, “the care factor” immediately came to mind relative saying a few things about it on this blog.

Was it one of those “follow your heart” moments? Possibly. Or simply something that I found myself desiring touch on once again? Not sure, but I decided to move forward and create the post!

Maybe in relationship to the topic of attraction marketing or working at home, you could assign the topic “extra care” as it relates to our marketing efforts. That is, caring being in addition to the normal caring for the the customer.

I am referring to the concept here as…

Intentionally adding in another level of ’service’ to others in our marketing and business pursuits.

That “adding in” could be…

It could be a blog post like this to serve as a very, very low key reminder or emotional “prompt” to consider the process.
Pointing people to a charity you support — such as World Vision — in an email, in a blog post, or possibly creating an article to be include in an article directory.
Being a driving force for something like Dr. Mani’s Heart Foundation to help save the lives of children or Rick Beneteau’s Internet Toy Drive that he heads up each year.
Etc., etc., etc.

The point being…

An intentional,
“Added something,”
Of value or worth (above normal customer care),
To our various business efforts.

Reflecting. Responding.

What ideas come to mind as you think about the “added care factor” relative to our online and offline efforts?
By chance have you been “kicking the tires” relative to testing out an idea of yours to bring help, healing and or hope to some group of people in your field of influence?
Have you seen anyone reflecting this type of effort that you could let them know of your gratefulness for their efforts?

You fill in the blanks!

Your creativity, care for others and desire to live an on purpose life will no doubt usher in a flow of additional ideas, reflections and/or action steps that you will decide to take.

The three minute inspirational movie below shares Vince Lombardi’s keys to success with vintage photos, Lombardi quotes, and audio segments from Lombardi giving his famous speech “What It Takes To Be Number One.”

I received this email today from Simple Truths (yes, I am an affiliate in case you are wondering) reminding me regarding the opening of the NFL season and in the email was this clip. I thought: “Sure, I’ll take a look at that.” Which I did, of course, and decided to share it here as well.

The clip contains quite an array of short quotes covering such subjects as the following.

Wisdom
Truth
Excellence
Results
Passion
Habit
Mental Toughness
Discipline

You know of my love for quotes! And, whether or not you will agree with every aspect of every quote, there’s enough packed within the video to definitely start one thinking.

For instance, we could ask ourselves…

“What would we say, or write, about the topics in that bulleted list above?”
“How would we tie those ideas into our personal lives or business efforts?”
“How might we prioritize the list?”
“If we had to make a top ten value list to live by, how many of those would be on the list?”

The Negative Power Of Self-Affirmation

Returning from a recreational outing, business event, church gathering or even a volunteer effort to accomplish some common good, the person beside you says…

“That ______. Good night, he (or she) has got to be on of the most self-centered, arrogant persons I’ve ever met. Yeah, he has done a lot but he also has a long way to go in his life. I wouldn’t want to be like him: ever.”

Consider the brief quote below to be one of the many, many “versions” of business or personal success out there in the information world:

But one version definitely worth thinking about in terms of our personal growth and development.

Here ya go:

Success 102

Success Is…

Being self-centered enough

to “make it happen”

and wise enough to avoid

being overcome with myself

in the process!

Being “properly proud” in my estimation is not only appropriate, but needed. We need to affirm and utilize our strengths for the purpose of making the impact in the world we desire and contributing to the same world in which we live.

However…

Self destructive pride can be a “killer” — and not in the good way. In my personal opinion it can…

Destroy relationships.
Create unhealthy environments for people to work in.
Represent a non-healthy view of one’s self if not based on a measure of truth. In other words, it can carry with it a measure of self-deception.
Etc.

And you be the “etc.” above by completing your own mental list of the negative results of pride unchecked and/or pride undeserved demonstrated in the lives of individuals.

The point: it can be harmful and we simply need to avoid the negative consequences of indulging in the wrong type of pride.

And On The More Positive Side…

Someone would be hard pressed by the reading of my posts to come to any false conclusions regarding our need to affirm ourselves or others. In fact, I would refer you to these two posts as an example of how I feel:

With those positive thoughts in the background, you could ask:

How have I laid aside the deceptive nature of false pride in my life?

The Wonder And Beauty Of Small Successes

(Winning In Life And Business One Step At A Time)

I do enjoy listening to, reading, or hearing about in one way or another the “small” successes people experience in their lives. Maybe that is one reason I’ve always enjoyed the experience of coaching others: you get to see them see them “win.”

Maybe not the “big” wins: just the wins.

A child’s fifteenth try — and “win” — at conquering that two wheeler.
A student teacher’s relating about a “win” in the classroom.
The simple joy of someone sharing “I did it!” — no matter how small the “I did it” may have been in their life.
A young pastor in the making sharing a successful first ministry effort while training at a church (yep, that’s my background showing, lol!)

The Importance Of The “Small Wins” In Life And Business

Nothing new, for sure. And I know you affirm the reality of this truth:

The small small successes in life make a difference.

In my way of thinking we need to:

Acknowledge them.
Celebrate them.
And help others do the same.

And we need to do so in:

Our own lives.
The lives of our those we may be married to.
Those we term dear friends.
The lives of our children.
The people we may be associated with in our work at home opportunity, our mastermind team or those we work with on a day to day basis.
Etc.

Right about now I can almost — almost — hear your on saying on the inside…

“Oh, Good Grief, Lee: All Of Us Know That!”

Absolutely true. Absolutely true.

However…

But I am big fan, cheerleader, proponent of, and/or believe in the power of a timely reminder. And this is just that: a reminder. Therefore, just in case this may be for you one of those “right time reminders,” allow me to toss out a few questions in your direction:

Should you happen to be facing any level of discouragement, do you need to take note of the small victories in your life at this time? Maybe record them in your journal, post several of them around for you to see during the day, or simply see them as something to be grateful for?
If I were to ask you, what small steps to success in your business or life journey have you taken that could be of a benefit for others to know, could you list them? Should you list them?
What small “victory step” could you begin tomorrow? Maybe begin the first post in a blog with a goal attached to it: like making one post a day for the next month? Or, making it “an encouragement day” for someone by encouraging them in one small, yet meaningful, manner? Or a “learn something new in only five or ten minutes” time tomorrow that could help?
Is there one small step you have not taken that you know you need to take at this time and you have not done so?

Time To Visit Your Heart

You might expect that as a life coach with a pastoral training background, I might deliver your way inquiries such as these about now:

In reviewing what we have talked about, do you hear your heart ’saying’ anything to at this time concerning what we have interacted about?
Thinking about what we have reviewed, would you say that you are giving yourself enough credit at this stage in our life relative to your small successes, or is there some other obstacle (small or large) hindering your success right now that should be considered?
Since you are a parent, let me ask you: are you celebrating in the small successes in the lives of your children — no matter what their age may be?
Okay, I know you see the importance of small success steps and liked what you read, so what step would you be willing to design and take by this time next week?

What Does Relational Success Look Like?

Relational Success…

Loving in the good times — and the not-so-good times.
Learning how to “win as a team” instead of demanding to win as an individual.
Learning to care and caring enough to listen.
Seeking mutual growth, celebrating each other’s victories and assisting each other during the stress times of life.
Being big enough to ask for forgiveness when you have wronged the other person and strong enough to grant forgiveness when you have been wronged.
Overlooking the small things for the purpose of gaining the bigger things in a relationship. Striving to keep the “small things” just that: small.
Giving enough space to the other person to allow for a strong sense of personal identity and self-worth while at the same time refusing to allow “space” to become a way of punishing someone when they fail to live up to my expectations.
Being flexible as schedules and various seasons of the year fluctuate between “being normal” and “being totally out of control.”

Asking Questions/Gaining Insights

What has caused our relationship to grow stronger in the ups and downs of life? Ideas for keeping the momentum…
Do we fight each other or *for* each other? How are we doing? We function best as a team when we…
Am I caring — and caring enough to listen?
Is mutual celebration a part of who we are as a couple?
I certainly don’t use “personal distance” as a punishment, do I?
Are we forgiving and experiencing true forgiveness? If so, what insights have we gained?
Is anything “too big” that is really too small to be an issue between us? What can (or should) be done about it?
Would we give each other a high rating in the area of being sensitive to the shifting demands of the crazy lives we lead?

The Success In Life Process

Let’s talk very briefly about success in life. I would like to lay before you one more of the many, many “definitions” (thoughts, ideas, insights, etc.) regarding success. This definition would apply to any number of people in a variety of settings. Whether or not you find yourself in the world of attraction marketing, online or offline business of some sort, coaching, writing, or for that matter dealing with such topics as parenting, marriage, relationships, etc. — I believe it can apply.

See it.
Share it.
Live it.
Do It All Over again.

See It

We “capture” success by choosing to see how it is and how it “works” in the first place.

We select an area (writing, speaking, home building, creating a business plan, etc.) and…

Note the process.

The beauty of “the good life learned” is that any aspects of the good life taken in can be given out for others to enjoy.

We share. And in doing so…

We make an impact.
We create reputations.
And we leave legacies: good, positive life changing legacies.

Tips On Success: Have Fun!

You know this happens and you may have even “been there/done that” yourself:

People dive into the process of being successful (personal growth or business)
They may start by incorporating fun.
But within a very short time, they realize it is hard work and the fun simply falls by the wayside.

Can you think of a “most successful person” in the world that seems to have fun?

I can: Oprah Winphrey.

Think seriously about this:

She began with nothing.
She became a multi-millionaire.
She has fun and appears to love helping others enjoy life.

You may not be a millionaire… yet.

You may have more than you need… or less than you would like.

But one lesson you can take away from people you know who seem to have “made it and made it well” — whether rich or barely making it — they make enjoying life a priority.

They celebrate often.

They celebrate well.
