“Be A Champion Quitter”

It’s Time To Quit!

Many times it is time to quit and it is a good thing to do.

It is always a good time to quit …

• Making excuses for wrong behavior.
• Avoiding responsibilities I should assume.
• Letting bitterness control my life.
• Being rotten to those who genuinely care.
• Repeating self-destructive habit patterns.
• Etc.

We all face times when being a quitter is the most caring or sensible choice we can, and should, make.

Champions are people who quit at the right time and for the right reasons.

If it is not your “time,” maybe someone you know has been a “champion quitter.”

Why not take a moment and tell that person you noticed and are proud of him or her?

And, if you are a recent “champion quitter,” stand up and take a bow — and a great big “Congrats!” from Lee

5 Tips For Balancing Life In The “Heart Zone”

You purposed to place your family first, decided to slow things down in order to hear your heart speak, listened to your heart regarding the needed time with those you love, and even developed an affirmation to help you along the way.

In the last of this series, allow me to share with you what I am calling…

Five Tips For Balancing Life In The “Heart Zone.”

One Word Reminders

1. Analyze
2. Acknowledge.
3. Create.
4. Listen.
5. Bring In The Joy

Analyze Your Patterns

Essentially, this is the time honored process of playing “I Spy” on yourself.  Allowing your purpose to continually push you in the right direction, you choose to…

Take note of your responses as they concern the family.

• Internal responses.
• External responses.
• And how they tie into each other.

You choose to see…

• What’s going on,
• Why it’s going that way,
• And if a pattern does in fact exist.

On Fridays do you find it difficult to mentally take part in anything “family” because you already began the process of seeing what needs to be done on Monday?

And what about dinner?  Is dinner a mental extension of work or a welcome break?

Do you consistently find it difficult to pay engage in whole hearted listening because of where your mind really is?  If so, is there a pattern?  And if you find one, why is that so?

The point: if you located a “heart tension” on any level that needs to be addressed, you simply must be alert to any patterns going on — inside and out — that may be observed.

And once you notice the tension spots on the playing field of your life, you must…

Acknowledge Any Failure

While in the “acknowledge any failure mode,” the effects of your failure must be noted.

• Not pleasant.
• Certainly not easy to accept.
• But failure and its effects must be noted.

You know I strive for balance in these types of “discussions,” so please allow me to state the obvious.

Should you be given over to being too critical of yourself and exaggerating the effects, you need to tone it down!

However, should you be in the process of embracing “the accept no responsibility mode,” that must stop.

In other words, seek to avoid over reacting on either side of the proverbial fence.

Next…

Create New Habit Patterns

Two simple principles here:

1. Support, reinforce and celebrate the good discoveries you noted.
2. Begin changing the “bad” discoveries you observed.

Just in case you traversed through any of my previous writings, after reading my next basic point you could find yourself saying, “Yep, that’s Lee.”

And here is that point.  When you think about changing those habit patterns, strive to make your progress based on:

What is doable.

That is, doable within the framework of your own lifestyle, personality, the season of life you are in, and your own unique set of gifts, challenge areas, and abilities.

Set yourself up for: (1) success; and (2) encouragement.

And to assist you in the process…

Listen To Your Spouse

Listen to what a loving spouse says to you directly… and indirectly.

The direct approach takes little personal brilliance to comprehend: “Lee, you’re the father and the children need a father this weekend.”

That’s what I call one of those “Duh factors!”

The indirect approach can be a slight bit more problematic as you know.  I know of no other way than to…

Work at listening with your heart,
And observing with the same.

• Emotions.
• Moods.
• Speech patterns.
• Body language.
• The whole non-verbal communicational shot.

But do make a concentrated effort to listen!

One more suggestion…

“Bring In The Joy” For All It’s Worth

When you are successful in any way, take notes: good, quality, life enhancing personal victory notations.

• Seize those.
• Capture the moments.
• Put them inside of you somehow.

So that you can review them later.

And then review it later!

Smiles, voice tone, hugs, “I’m glad I did that” thoughts, conversations..

Anything.

Just take note, “absorb” what you can, and continue to do so for the purpose of reinforcing the chosen direction of your life.

That’s It!

Every Day Time Management
For The Work-At-Home Entrepreneur

Time for work-at-home entrepreneurs is their single most valuable asset. Nothing can replace time…valuable, precious time!

No matter how rich or poor you are, no matter how many things are on your ‘to-do’ list, you still just get the regulation twenty-four hours each day.

Sometimes I could use another twenty-four but that isn’t going to happen. I’ll bet that you could use more hours in your work day, as well.

The thing about those twenty-four allotted hours per day is that we can’t spend all of them working.

The point: much needs to happen and that means that our time needs to be managed.

Think of what will read below as simple reminders of the obvious.  Nothing earth shattering.  Just…

“Obvious and necessary.”

And please do not allow the combination of those two words to slip by you.  Why? Because “obvious and necessary” can mean an important reminder to make an advancement we need to make!

Keep Up With That Email!

Several simple questions for you:

Do you have a way to: (1) set aside emails you need to answer soon, if not immediately? and (2) store emails that you don’t need to get back to immediately; and (3) file important ones for long term use (i.e. that may have urls to get back to, categories where you can find things at will, etc.”

Your answers to those questions will help you in the time management issues relative to your email.

Think…

And don’t forget the “get it out of the way emotional factor.”  If you can get something done in several minutes — for real several minutes (three maximum), then seriously think about doing it!

Work According To Schedule

Think of three words here:

Organize your day. Discover when you work best on certain things.  Do what you do best when it’s best for you to do it.

Easier said than done, true!  But it can pay off.

Take advantage of your personality, your motivations, what you enjoy… and what you hate.

“What you hate” you say?  That’s right, what you hate.  You know what I am going to say on that subject, correct?

Correct: tackle it.  Just do it.

One more time…

And of course all of this means working on a schedule. If you are a work at home person, you must…WORK at home.

Should You Outsource?

It may not be possible or practical at first… or it may be immensely practical for you.

Take time to investigate outsourcing. You can add hours to your day each and every day when you outsource the mundane business tasks to others.

You can outsource such tasks as bookkeeping and accounting, article/E-book writing and submission, ad writing, etc., etc.  And, with regards to the “article and ebook” category, you may even investigate the field of Private Label Rights from a trusted source.

If others can do these types of tasks better and more efficiently than you can and your time is better spent on growing your business, making those contacts and closing those deals!

Get on a business forum and ask where, when and how to best outsource.  Or contact a member of your upline that may be able to give you a resource in this area.

Evaluation Of Those “High Ticket” Items

Paying attention to “high value people” and “high value activities” can help your internal motivation tremendously.

Write down your most important people list.  Seriously, jot down the names.

Now…

Review this past week and see if they made it into the final game plan… or were they still on the bench waiting for the coach’s signal to enter the game?

If they’ve been on the bench too long, then something could be wrong.

And what about “high level activities”?  Are you really engaged in the best for the business and the best for the business of the quality of life you truly desire to lead?

Here’s a very, very simple process.  I know you know it.  It is one of those simple, obvious and quite possibly necessary strategies.

Questions To Direct The Journey Of Your Life

This is a simple, but not necessarily easy, “perspective” exercise.  If you relate to the asking of questions, you will most likely relate to this brief post.

A Bit Of Prep Time

Try to…

• Slow down a bit before you read.
• Try, in some way, to get in touch with your heart.
• If possible, make provisions to respond.  Take notes, record ideas, whatever.

Perspective

• Use the questions to prompt journal entries.
• Allow the questions to help you formulate future goals for your life.
• If you “really get going” on one question… keep going and return.
• If you find one or more than prove to be valuable for you… share it!  All of us desire to be a positive influence, right?

Let The Process Begin!

On The Artistic Side Of Life…

• Do you want to achieve any artistic goals?
• If so, what is it? Do you want to write a book; paint a masterpiece, or write a song?

Thinking About Attitude…

• Does your own mindset hold you back from making progress?
• Do you have enough “positive” while keeping the “negative” in the proper place
• Would you like to be more assertive, encouraging, thoughtful, caring, etc?
• If you were to name the top 3 most positive aspects of your attitude, what would they be?

Now About That Career…

• What level do you want to reach in your career?
• Or, what career changes would you like to make… now or later?  How might you begin?
• Do you have a desire to be self-employed?  If so, why?  Do your reasons make sense?
• In your job now: how could be a positive influence?  A “go-giver” as they say?

Let’s Talk About Learning…

• Is there any knowledge you want to acquire in particular or some area of study that you would like to pursue?
• At this stage of your life journey, what do you enjoy learning… and why?
• Are you learning more and applying it less by any chance?  Or, is your learning in balance with the forward momentum?

Family:

• Are your family relationships what you would like them to be?  If not, how can you make steps to make them different?
• What positives do you see in “anything family” about your life?  Could you name your top three?  If so, how could you capitalize on those to make your life even better at this moment?
• How do you define family?

Financial

• How much do you want to earn by what age in your life? What can you do to make that come about?
• How are your “financial disciplines?”  Are they propelling you forward or something less than forward?

Physical:

• What to you means “good health”?
• What would a level of good health, if you can, allow you to do now… or years from now… that you might shoot aim at doing?
• Are you where you feel you should, or could be, physically given our set of life circumstances at this time? What changes, if any, do you feel you need to make?
• If those close to you were to answer the questions directly above, how do you think they would answer them?  Why?

Pleasure

• How do you want to enjoy yourself and are you enjoying yourself that way?
• Do you have many “life celebrations” to help you along with your personal and/or professional journey?
• Are you taking enough time to hear “the heart speaks” of your life?

Service

• Do you want to make the world a better place by your existence? If so, how?
• If someone were to ask you, “How would you like to ‘give back?’, what would you tell them?

Review

• Reflect on one or more of your answers — or the thoughts you have entertained about any of the questions.
• Do any other questions come to mind?  If they did, why?  Should you pay attention for simply “let it go?
• What about priorities?  Are any priorities emerging as you review the list?

Desire To Be A Positive Influence?
(Thee Simple Steps To Begin The Journey)

There are many ways of growing in your “influence level” with people.  These three steps are by no means inclusive… as you will see.

But they can serve to get you mentally involved in several of the many, many facets involved with influencing other people for all the right reasons.

Are You Clear About What Your Desire?

If you are seeking to be a positive influence in the life of another person, the first point is relatively simple:

Be clear about what you desire.

If another person seems to be blocking your influence in their live — for whatever reason — asking a simple question may help.

Such as… “Do they clearly understand what I need, want or desire in this situation?”

True confession: sometimes I am not as clear as I should be.  A child may not truly understand what a parent wants or a worker not be clear on the roles or tasks you would like he or she to be involved in (if you are the boss).

So, clarity is one thing.

But also do a motive check.  Why do you want this done?  And how important is it to you at this time?

Can you influence someone by simply “letting it go” and building the relationship that way?

In other words: seek to understand first.  Self understanding.  It goes a long way when you are trying to move forward in the “influence level” of your life.

Take A Look On The Inside… But With Others In View

Here’s what I mean: are your expectations correct?  What you think others are expecting of you — or from you — are these expectations…

Correct?
Accurate?
Based on truth?

Or could they possibly be clouded by your own “inside matters” in some way or another?

Sometimes being an influence on other people can take place just a bit more as you  simply realize that you can’t expect to “have it all right, all the time.”

You want to influence others by giving a speech or training them in some activity.  Maybe you are beginning a new adventure…

And the “but I’m not prepared enough” or “polished enough” or “expert enough” mental games you are playing inside are hurting who you could be as you try to be a positive influence in the lives of others.

Strive For Consistency, But Don’t Get Too Disturbed Along The Way

Allow your determination to move you forward … even in the midst of mistakes, wrong turns, or what could be seen as roadblocks.

• Do it better the next time.
• Adjust, readjust, and move forward.

Learn, grow, develop and share with others along your journey.  I don’t know how many sales pages I’ve read on the internet that contain stories about long, hard, learning-as-they-go times… until they made the first encouraging result.

My point: to be involved in the art of influencing others we strive to be consistent and move forward but we are also aware that we will not be perfect in our path of doing so.

Taking It With You…

• Are you clear about what you desire?
• Are your expectations accurate?  Can you move forward with the current ones?
• Are the hardships may be facing hindering or helping you get better and move forward?
• What do you see your next steps to make in terms of becoming a better influencer of people?  Will you begin to take them?

Men: Reflect On What You Are About To Read

• Am I striving to be the best I can as an “attraction marketer“? Absolutely.
• Do I desire to accomplish my business goals for the purpose of enhancing my life and the lives of those I influence in a positive manner?  Absolutely.

However…

Even though I am sixty-four and the children do not live in my home, I do know one thing for sure: I never want to hear anything like this…

“Well, pops, I’m glad you ‘made it’ as a business person during this transition period of your life where you went from being in ministry in the educational realm to being a successful online marketer.  I’m glad for you.  But somewhere along the line your attraction for us kids dropped off — way off — and we took second place to you as a dad.”

I don’t know you, you aspirations or your drives and how they are being handled at this stage of your life: and I certainly don’t have to.

But one thing for sure: I do know that if you are a dad now or planning on being one, I would encourage you to thoughtfully read the article below.

It may be far from the best you may ever read, but I simply don’t care.  What matters to me is that you sense the heartbeat of the article, apply it to you in a positive manner at this stage of your, and use it as a motivation to keep on trying to be the best dad (or grandfather) you can while in the process of building the best possible business you can.

A View From The Men’s Room

I could hardly believe what I was hearing. A father and his son had entered the men’s room. While I was washing my hands, I listened as the father wielded a series of demanding and demeaning statements at his son as if they were swords in a battle for … who knows what?

And all about going to the bathroom quickly!

It was the perfect victory.

• The enemy (the son) had been slain.
• The battle was won.
• The general had summoned his one-man army to do his bidding.

It was also totally and completely ridiculous. There was no consideration for the feelings or physical needs of the young person.

The “bad boy” had won the day — and the bad boy was not the son.

It was the son’s insensitive dad.

I Felt Sad And Angry

This incident occurred while on vacation. I loved vacation except for one aspect: watching fathers deal with their children.

I was sad.
And I was angry.

The “interesting” thing was that when I related this observation to my daughter and son-in-law, they proceeded to share with me their same discouragement while they were on a recent trip to a theme park.

Their message was the same:

“We had a great time. The only discouraging thing was seeing dads with their children.”

I Agree: It Is Far From Easy

I am a father and I would be among the first to declare that raising children is not an easy task.

Parts of it are rough. Real rough.

I would also be quick to admit the times I have failed as a father.  How could I not? I may have a few answers but that doesn’t mean I’ve lived them all..

• All time
• In all of the best possible ways.

But I do hope that no one has ever said this about me after observing my relationship with any of my children or grand children:

“We saw the most discouraging thing today. This guy was a jerk. The way he treated those kids was awful.  No respect. No honor. Only demands and unrealistic expectations. I tell ya, it was sad.”

There Is A Better Way… And As Dads We All Know It

Let me be quick to add…

All is not bad.

I have seen many loving, caring fathers throughout the years. I love watching those types of dads relate to their children. It is one of my personal delights in life

With that in mind, I am offering a few simple suggestions for a better way: a better way for fathers to relate to their children than the two negative examples I have shared with you.

I Will Center On Five Themes

1. Consideration

2. Respect

3. Humility

4. Compassion

5. Love

Two comments as I transition into my suggestions:

• You will quickly discover that this will not be a long and drawn out discussion of these themes. Enjoy.
• Many of the points will be shared through using simple “affirmations” — or descriptive comments if you please.

These affirmations will help you personalize what is said.

So…

We have discussed a few of the “bad boy” characteristics.

Let’s turn our attention to five characteristics of the “good boys.” That is, men who are determined *not* to be thought of as “one of those insensitive dads.”

Consideration

Consideration says…

“I adjust my expectations according to the needs, maturity level and emotional capabilities of the child I am relating to at the moment.”

Because of the important aspects of the statement you just read, I’m going to repeat it and break it down for you.

That’s my part.

Yours will be to reflect on each aspect as you read it one more time. Reflect on it through the lens of how you would have liked to be treated as a young-person-in-the-making. (The extra spaces are there by design to prompt reflection).

“I adjust

My expectations

According to

The needs,

Maturity level

And emotional capabilities

Of the child

I am relating to

At the moment.”

Respect

Respect says…

“I see this person entrusted to my care as one who is worthy of my honor, approval and love.”

This mental stance provides for me a frame. A frame I wrap around my child *to begin with.* The child is worthy of my honor, approval and love — from the beginning.

It is a part of the package each child should *sense* in me from “Day One” so-to-speak.

Humility

Humility says…

• “Because I am still learning, I give my child space and time to learn.”
• “Because I still fail, I forgive and support my child when he or she fails.”
• “Because I respond poorly when people are angry with me for reasons I do not understand, I resist all uncontrolled and self-centered anger when dealing with my child.”

Compassion

Compassion says…

• “I am a ’show and tell’ person. I show my child I care. I tell my child I care.”
• “I strive to be gentle, not harsh.”
• “I care and my child senses it.”

Love

Love says… all of the above.

A DISCLAIMER

Let me make something perfectly clear: children can — and do — hurt their parents: good parents.

Parents who in a very real sense lay down their lives for their kids and still get kicked in the guts while trying to help their children be happy and succeed in life.

These parents know a special kind of pain. A pain that no one really wants to understand. I salute those parents.

You may be one of them.

So my disclaimer is..

• I realize this is a two-sided fence
• My purpose is not to add guilt to a conscience already plagued by the “Why’s” of their child’s bad attitudes and behavior — in spite of hundreds of hours of trying to do what’s right.

Rather, if you happen to be one of those parents — and especially a dad since that is the topic of these comments — I want you to hear these words:

“I thank you for trying.”

I thank you for trying and for the lonely hours you have spent that only you, and possibly your spouse — and God — knows about…

The tears. The heartache and the pain that goes on and on as each new report surfaces about some action or attitude your child has displayed.

For those times, tears and heartache — I reflect to you my appreciation.

And I’m sure I represent only one of many voices that would echo the same to you if they could.

Therefore, review these comments and take note of each positive thing you have done.

• Take note.
• And take a bow.
• You deserve it.
• And we applaud you.

Your Values. Your Vision. Your Life.

Bridget Haymond recently created a post on her blog entitled “Values For Your Success.”

Within that very well said article, she lists an acronym for values that I believe is worth sharing.

• Vision – create a vision board with inspirational photos and phrases
• Alignment – keep goals in alignment with core values for momentum
• Legacy – commit to a lifestyle that leaves an inspiring legacy
• Useful – useful goals have measurable results that further the vision
• Endurance – worthwhile endeavors take time so endurance is key
• Success – successful results are balanced and whole life focused.

Aren’t those great?

– Vision –

As you move through your day — whether that be an “attraction marketing day” — a personal day off, or during this stage in your life:

How could are you, or feel that you should be, keeing your vision alive?

If yours, like many, is a “vision in formation,” how might paying attention to the remainder of the points help you along the way?

– Alignment and Core Values –

Have you identified your core values that could be “attached” to any of your goals or dreams?

If so, are they in print where you could share them with someone else?

– Legacy –

Don’t you love that word “lifestyle” when associated with the topic of a legacy?

Question: if you were to summarize in broad terms what you are aiming at in terms of a legacy, what would it be?

Putting these two words through my particular grid, I might say…

We design target attitudes and actions that serve to move us towards the desires of our hearts (i.e. they are useful) and stimulate in us a sense of sticking with it until they are accomplished or modified to fit our purposes.

How would you reframe that combination of words to fit your take on life and what you want to accomplish?

Writing down how you might answer that could be the stimulus to share with those you are training, your family or another significant person you are seeking to influence.

“Balanced and whole life focused.” Now that says tons to me.

And keep moving forward in those areas.
